Up for sale is a Union Railroad bell bottom lantern made by Star Head Light Company of Rochester New York with an unmarked red globe.

This lantern has dark toning and good appeal for its age.  The Star Head Light logo is top of the chimney with the U.R.R. embossed in bold letters on the lid.  I think this is for the Union Railroad of Pittsburgh--please see pictures and make your own assessment.  The top portion of the lantern is in good structural condition.  The bell bottom portion has some discoloration and very light surface rusting but nothing significant.  The only significant flaw I see is that the small bar that normally sticks to keep the brass latch locked in place is missing.  The brass latch sits solidly in place where it should but there is no small metal part to lock it in place--please see pictures for reference.

The globe is a tall red globe with no markings and no railroad identification on it.  It is a darker red color with a heavy feel.  There is no cracks or damage but there are some light scuff marks in a couple places.  It could use a cleaning.  The top rim and bottom rim are mostly clean with a very minor chip or two--not really worth mentioning.
