I believe this to be an antique reprint of Whistler’s Mother in silhouette in an antique frame.
This appears to be a silver inlay with some coloring in the curtains. I don't think it is Mother of Pearl.
It is extremely hard to replace the nails in the back of the framing. Often, it is impossible to do. So I believe it to be the original backing.
Frame backing has a stamp "CODE ISSUED BY PICTURE MOULDING AND PICTURE FRAME CODE AUTHORITY. REGISTRATION 12-17" which is a government publication of work rules for the manufacturing of picture frame moulding by the National Recover Administration which was published in 1934.
Wood frame has some wear which makes it look like it has been distressed. Otherwise, there is no wear or tear visible to the eye. Please check out our photos for further information.
