Deed poll on vellum, with a vellum seal tongue

Endorsed De terra in Reywell in early hand

Dated Monday, 26 April, 1395

More than 600 years old

An extraordinary piece - would look striking framed.

Dating of this document:

The last sentence of the document translation says "Given at Write to him on the Monday next after the feast of St. Mark the Evangelist in the year of the king's reign of Richard the Second after the eighteenth conquest.". Richard II came to power in 1377 and died in 1399 so the 18th conquest is the 18th year of his reign putting the year at 1395. Monday, 26 April, is not specifically stated in the document but "Monday next after the feast of St. Mark the Evangelist" is stated. The St. Mark feast day is April 25 each year, hence the exact date of the document of Monday, April 26, 1395.

The written leaf measures 28cm x 10cm, with 9 lines of text.
