The Description:

The Kandy Esala Perahera also known as The Festival of the Tooth is a festival held in July and August in Kandy, Sri Lanka. This historical procession is held annually to pay homage to the Sacred Tooth Relic of Buddha, which is housed at the Sri Dalada Maligawa (The Temple of The Sacred Tooth Relic)  in Kandy, Sri Lanka.

Elephants play a very important part in the pageant. It is the largest elephant, easily spotted with long white tusks (it is always a tusker), who is given the honour of carrying a casket containing the Tooth Relic across the city.
