This is a high quality, Maker hallmarked
and dated Antique silver liquor / spirits / wine flask, with a 3-dimensional
hand-blown, hand cut crystal flask with a hallmarked silver cup and twist bayonet
style top. This is a heavy duty, thick piece of hand-blown cut crystal small
flask, 5 1/4” tall x 2 3/8” wide x 1 1/4” thick and is heavy for its size at a
hefty 8.7 ounces or 247 grams. This flask is a desirous pocket size flask,
intended as a carrying. The oval shaped (top view) hand cut crystal glass is
hand blown into a mold, is crystal clear inside, and appears unused.
The top of the flask has 3-dimensional
diamond cut crystal patterns. The front, back and sides have cut shaped patterns
with hand cut flat vertical panel patterns. The alternating patterns with
beveled cut shapes create eye appealing, light reflecting patterns. The bottom
flask half is smooth to accommodate the very snug fitting cup for
sharing the liquor / spirits / wine and shows the flask is clear inside. The bottom
shows the extra thick glass that is 1/4" thick. There is one tiny clear
bubble inside the glass on the bottom underneath the cup that was
created when the flask was hand blown into the mold. The removable silver cup
is heavy for its size at 1.7 ounces or 50 grams. The top lip of the cup has a
thick border to ensure a tight-fitting cup and comfort when drinking from the
cup. The inside of the cup is stamped 327 Y and is gold washed that is now
lightly colored from being polished. The cup is unadorned and could be engraved
with initials or a to / from presentation engraving but remains uninscribed. The
cup is in mint save for one tiny hard to notice ding on the side at the bottom
adjacent to the bottom cover plate. It is impossible to photograph a curved
shiny reflective object, and I took almost 2 dozen images to try to catch what
the eye sees. The cup fits the crystal flask as new. The silver mushroomed
shaped top has a mint cork insert, a tiny pin prick mark and a very minor extremely
shallow depression that is hard to notice and doesn’t show up in any of the
images but can be seen when rotating in the light. The cap secures the top to
the flask very securely. I have not leak tested it as it can cause water marks.
The round flask mouthpiece is silver lined with no chips to the glass
mouthpiece. The bottom collar of the screw top has the Maker’s mark hallmark. The
4 hallmarks are stamped on the outside top of the cups rim. The Maker mark is a
shield, with G & J W. H. letters for G & J. W. Hawksley, Carver Street,
Sheffield, the crown mark for Sheffield, the lion sterling mark, and the small
case n, the letter date for 1905. This handsome, eye appealing, desirous pocket
size hand blown, and hand cut crystal flask with silver gold washed cup was
crafted by Master artisans. Almost all
flasks from this period show use, but this piece shows little to no use
overall, and remains in minty condition; especially considering its
approximately 120 +years of age. None of the small handling marks are
distracting to the overall presentation of this mint condition flask.
This would be perfect for any Whiskey,
Liquor / Spirits / Wine or Nipper or Flask collection, gambling, hunter,
traveler, outdoor or sports fan, silver, special occasion flask and would make
an impressive presentation / gift, decorator, display, or conversation piece.
