Introducing
My "2E1: Two Ears in One"™ Stereo Headphones For The Unilateral /
Single-Sided Deaf With True Stereo Separate Left and Right Channels Going
Into One Ear!™ With my 2E1:
"Two Ears in One" stereo headphones, if you recently lost
hearing in one ear you can hear audio in true stereo via a headphone again! With my 2E1:
"Two Ears in One" stereo headphones, if you have always been
single-sided deaf you can now hear audio in true stereo via a headphone for the
first time! That is what "2E1"™ means: "Two Ears in One"™! Separate Left & Right side drivers
producing true stereo audio for one ear! No more mixing of the two-channel
stereo audio signal into one-channel mono! How the 2E1 came
about: I had suffered total hearing
loss in one ear from an acoustic neuroma tumor and while I was in recovery from
the tumor removal surgery and looking to relax via activities involving
listening to headphones, I found I could no longer use and enjoy my old normal bilateral
headphones in all the ways I was used to. While this was expected after my
unilateral hearing loss, I was frustrated to find there were no stereo headphones made
by any major headphone manufacturers for people with
single-sided deafness (SSD) / unilateral hearing loss (UHL). If
you listen to music via normal bilateral stereo headphones some sound is played
through the Left channel and some is played through the Right channel of
the stereo headphone and if you are deaf in one of your ears you will naturally
miss out hearing one of the channels. I thought a solution to hearing in stereo
with one ear were one sided headphones that they describe as "DJ stereo
headphones" but I was disappointed because upon
introspection those types of DJ headphones are not true stereo headphones due
to the fact that if they only have one speaker driver to an ear it is still
only mono sound even if it is converting the stereo sound into a mono-mix. This
realization inspired me make good use of my Aviation Airframe & Powerplant
background and design and create my own stereo headphones that will reproduce
stereo into one ear for me and the end result was so successful I started
making these headphone that I have dubbed the 2E1 for
"Two Ears in One" for others in the single-sided deaf
community. What I am doing
with my 2E1 design: Basically the sounds coming from stereo drivers are individual mono sounds being played on the Left or Right channel to create a stereophonic sound, a method of sound reproduction that creates an illusion of a multi-directional audible perspective. If you are unilaterally deaf you naturally miss out on this stereo Left/Right audio positioning with normal stereo headphones. While they do have mono conversions of the stereo sound to the headphone speakers, I found that mono-mixed audio makes the music sound "flat" to me knowing what it sounded like before my unilateral hearing loss and mono-mixed audio is useless for sound localization in PC/Console gaming. Mono-mixers take the Left and Right two channels and blends them into one channel and eliminating the stereo effect. My 2E1 headphones preserve the stereo two channel sound with separate L/R drivers housed in one ear-cup and thus getting true stereo sound and stereo panning effects going into your one ear. My 2E1's really are true stereo into a single ear headphones where there are separate Left and Right channel drivers playing into one ear to create a true two channel stereo experience for the single-sided deaf. The preserved two channel stereo audio sounds richer and fuller than it would if the two channel stereo signal was mono-mixed. With my 2E1 design, I'm positioning both the separate Left/Right driver channels inside a single ear-cup on the 2E1 headphone. Having separate magnet drivers in one ear-cup of the headphone allows your one ear to better hear the stereo panning effect between the two individual L/R speaker drivers with one ear, in other words true two-channel stereo sound going into one ear! Inside the 2E1's ear-cup the Left driver is in the up position and the Right driver is in the down position This echelon drivers
spacing on each 2E1 headphone
model is designed to enhance your one ear's ability to experience the
stereo panning effect without distortion of the audio
signal. Additionally, as part of the Flying Echelon design the drivers are
mechanically attached (no glues are used) to an acoustic diaphragm so as
to produce an enhancing resonance effect to the speaker drivers
audio signal. In my 2E1's drivers
configuration, the side
with the cable is the side with the two L/R drivers that you place to your
working ear. There is no Left or
Right side orientation for the 2E1 stereo headphone because
the Left and Right drivers are contained in the one ear-up with the Left driver in the up and staggered back position and the right driver in the down position closer to the ear. To hear, just place the
ear-cup with the L/R drivers to your functioning left or right ear and the
hollow ear-cup side to your deaf ear. Once you get your hands on the 2E1, how
to use it is simple and self-explanatory. The 2E1 comes to you
plug-and-play ready to work, with no assembly or batteries required. All
you would have to do is place the 2E1 on your head like any
normal stereo headphone and plug it into your smartphone, computer, gaming
console or any stereo/audio device and your one ear will hear in two-channel
stereo. What I am doing
with my various 2E1 builds: I assemble my 2E1 single sided stereo headphones from high quality, new-off-the-shelf brand named components that I found work and fit together best for this project. I use on-ear stereo headphone magnet drivers from Koss (which are high fidelity rated) and Panasonic (which have XBS port boosted bass) that I modify and insert into premium branded passive noise canceling hearing protection earmuffs in my innovative "Flying Echelon™" staggered configuration. Like all earmuff hearing protectors, they are passive noise cancelling, designed to fit tightly but comfortably on the head and ears (please keep in mind that a tight fit is standard for all hearing protection earmuffs) over heads and on the ears of most adults and children (see sizes in descriptions below) and are all designated as one size fits most. The hearing protectors that I'm converting into 2E1 stereo headphones were selected due to their sturdy, quality construction, comfortable and long lasting ear cushions that are great at blocking ambient noise so all you hear is the sounds coming from your speaker drivers. While all my 2E1 headphones have a form of the "Flying Echelon™" staggered drivers configuration, the "2E1 Pro Ears" model has the best and most acute version of the Flying Echelon configuration (see The "2E1 Pro Ears" specifications and illustration below on how my Flying Echelon speaker formation works) to provide the maximum aid for your one ear to hear stereo panning effects in high fidelity audio. The "2E1 Pro Ears" and the "2e1 Semi-Pro" folding models all use the same Koss KSC75 high fidelity rated drivers in the Flying Echelon staggered drivers configuration. The "2e1 Semi-Pro X" folding model utilizes Drop Studio's (formerly known as Massdrop) modified Koss KSC75X with built in inline one-touch remote control for controlling tracks and taking calls in the Flying Echelon staggered drivers configuration. The "L1" and the "Ucho/Ear" Folding headphone models also use a form of the Flying Echelon staggered stereo drivers configuration for it's Panasonic XBS bass port boosted drivers. For added comfort I also incorporate vents into the "deaf-side"/hollow ear-cup to help keep the deaf ear cool and comfortable and for ease of differentiation as standard for all 2E1 models. The 2E1 can be easily modified with add-on attachments. You can easily add a boom microphone to attach to the 2E1 to convert it into a headset for gaming (feel free to ask my recommendation for which of my 2E1 headphone models is best for your gaming needs). For certain uses you may find that you may need to pair up the 2E1 with a headphone DAC/Amp because while analog components like turntables or stereo decks tend to not need to be paired up with a headphone amp (because they have it built in). Headphone amps are recommended if your 2E1 will be in use with weakly amplified devices like some soundcards, portable music players, smartphones, and other portable devices that tend to need a headphone amp pairings in order to get the best powered audio signal from high (20+ ohms) impedance headphones (this is generally true for all brands of high 20+ ohms impedance headphones). All the 2E1 headphone models can be made to be "wireless" by buying Bluetooth adapters to connect to a smartphone or any Bluetooth capable device. The "Semi-Pro X" model has a wired inline remote control and mic suitable for all general smartphone use. If the length of the audio cable needs to be longer for your needs you can extend it with a simple 3.5mm male-to-female audio extension cable. I would be happy to advise you on how to do all this. Also, in some cases, my 2E1's are also being used by people who have bilateral hearing (hearing in both ears) but want to keep one ear free to monitor the surrounding environment while listening to stereo in the other ear. I even think the 2e1 Semi-Pro or Ucho/Ear could ideally be used by those that are bilateral-hearing enabled because it produces full stereo to one ear while leaving their other ear free to monitor their surrounding environment! Contact me with these requests after your purchase. I have created the
following 2E1 headphone model variations to meet various budgets and
usages. If you need advice on which 2E1 model is best for your
planned usage please do not hesitate to ask for my recommendation. ~ ~ ~ The 2E1 "L1" & "Ucho/Ear" Headphone Components Description Panasonic XBS drivers

**THE "2E1 PRO EARS” & "2e1 SEMI-PRO FOLDING" HIGH
FIDELITY HEADPHONE MODELS!** After numerous requests made to me from single-sided deaf gamers, musicians and audiophiles for a high fidelity headphone incorporating the 2E1 system, I am pleased and thrilled to offer my highly praised 2E1 "Pro Ears" high fidelity rated, leather ear-padded Headphone! Put the 2E1 Pro Ears on and you're one ear will immediately feel and hear the difference and understand why it is so well received! _____________________________________________________________________
I build my 2E1 Pro Ears model by converting the Altus Brand Pro Ears hearing protectors, that are made with genuine leather visco-elastic foam padded headband and ear seals. Completing my 2E1 Pro Ears headband conversion, I incorporate the legendary Koss KSC75 high fidelity stereo headphone drivers that I mechanically attach to an acoustic diaphragm that is arranged inside one ear-cup in my unique and innovative Flying Echelon™ staggered drivers configuration for aiding a single-sided deaf person's stereo panning perception. How my Flying
Echelon's™ Left/Right Driver formation works for
my 2E1 Pro Ears in aiding hearing in stereo with one ear: The way my Flying
Echelon™ configuration works is based on the
observed phenomenon that sound changes pitch depending on how close the sound
source is to your ear. The drivers are affixed separate to
the Pro Ears' ear-cup housing (hence "flying" designation) and
are staggered (hence the "echelon" designation) inside the ear-cup of
the Pro Ears headphone. With the Flying Echelon™ formation the Right side stereo driver is
in the down position and closer against the ear and the Left
side stereo driver is in the up position and recessed slightly back and away
from the ear, thus making it easier for your one ear to have the
ability to hear the stereo panning effect between the individual Left and Right
drivers. The Flying Echelon also functions as
a acoustic resonance enhancing diaphragm that the drivers are mechanically attached to inside the Pro Ears' ear-cup
housing that works in harmony with the drivers to produce an effect
that enhances the
high fidelity drivers' dynamic audio performance (see my diagram illustration) causing the drivers to produce a sound that simulates the soft timbre of a tube amplifier making the
audio output of the Koss hi-fi drivers sound warmer and softer. You have to
hear it and feel it pumping to believe it! My 2E1 Pro
Ears' Flying Echelon™ staggered configuration of the Left/Right drivers aids your
one ear's ability to pick up the stereo panning effect between the Left and
Right drivers. The 2E1 Pro Ears headphone incorporates the
most acute Flying Echelon staggering of the Left/Right speaker
drivers to produce the sharpest and most perceptible sound contrast between the
individual Left/Right drivers housed inside the "Pro
Ears" ear-cup that your one ear can perceive of all my 2E1 headphones. The Pro Ears' Flying
Echelon acute staggering formation of the Left/Right
drivers is specifically designed for the single-sided deaf listener to maximize their one ear's ability to hear stereo panning in music and sound
localization effects in computer gaming to the
maximum without distorting the high fidelity quality of the
audio signal produced by the Left/Right drivers that you
hear. Your one ear will be amazed at the hi-fi stereo sounds produced
through the Koss' acclaimed hi-fi rated drivers in my Flying
Echelon formation which are housed in this
ultra-comfortable Pro Ears headphone. The 2E1 Pro
Ears' Flying Echelon opens up new audio
listening dimensions that have previously been denied to the SSD
headphone user stuck with normal headphones where they can only hear one side
or listening to stereo-to-mono mixed audio options. See and hear

As a free option for
the "2e1 Semi-Pro Folding" models, I'll add
additional vents to the ear-cup housing the speakers to let in ambient
sounds to help you better monitor
your immediate environment (for example, so you can better hear traffic sounds around you
while walking about wearing the "2e1 Semi-Pros", etc.). Be aware the speaker-side vents will
allow others to also hear what you are listening to if played at higher volumes
(like if you are using them in a library or airplane). Contact me with these requests after your

parts used in my 2E1 models are guaranteed to function and to
be brand-new-out-of-the-box and are covered by the eBay Money Back
Guarantee. The 2E1's
are personally hand assembled by myself in my NYC workshop to the highest
build quality but please forgive
any superficial blemishes that may arise from the handcrafted build
process. Additionally, for as long as I am making my 2E1s I
will provide personal lifetime technical support and also repair or replace
the 2E1s purchased from me for free or at cost if they ever
malfunction or get damaged (per my discretion, offer not
applicable to ear cushion replacements and you will need to pay for shipping
both ways), so please save your receipts! Please allow me about a
week to build and ship the 2E1 stereo headphone to you (I
also happily ship internationally!). The available default colors are
those shown in the pictures but just in case the default colors are not
available from my suppliers at time of purchase I may substitute with another
similar unisex color (though, this has yet to happen). For those people who are
sensitive or concerned about chemical smells, I do not use glues of any kind in
my 2E1 build. The 2E1 headphone's Flying
Echelon embedded speaker drivers are secured inside the ear-cup
via a pure mechanical build and are fully serviceable and customizable. For those sensitive about their SSD condition
I do not brand the 2E1 headphones in any way to indicate it is
for use by a single-sided deaf person. The Single Sided Deaf community has a major need for high fidelity stereo headphones that is not currently being fulfilled by any major headphone manufacturer so I contend my self-developed 2E1 stereo headphones can service that need. Positive reviews for the stereo headphone drivers and the hearing protection earmuffs that I convert into my 2E1 stereo headphones are widely attested to online. If you want to know ahead of purchasing the 2E1 headphones how well all my 2E1 models will sound and fit, then all you have to do is look up the online reviews for both the fit of the individual hearing protection earmuffs and the sound performance of the stereo headphones that have been submitted by a multitude of reviewers over the years. I contend that my 2E1 headphones can match normal "bilateral" stereo headphones in audio performance because I'm converting the well reviewed "bilateral hearing" stereo headphones from the selected major brands (Koss and Panasonic) into my 2E1 headphones to serve the single-sided deaf community's audio headphone needs. If you have any questions please feel free to ask me either here on eBay or on Reddit under "/u/Biblos_Geek" where you can also follow me to be informed of any 2E1 special deals or promotions I announce there (I RECENTLY POSTED MY SALES DISCOUNT CODES ON REDDIT THAT WILL BE GOOD THROUGH LABOR DAY SO FOLLOW ME THERE FOR THE CODES!). I'm constantly revising existing 2E1 headphone designs and adding new models so please make sure to add this page to your eBay watch list! I am very grateful,
honored and humbled by the positive reviews my 2E1 stereo
headphones are receiving (some of which I screenshot). Making
my 2E1s has been a great
healing therapy for me in my own recovery from my unilateral hearing loss so
I'm pleased to build my 2E1 "Two Ears in One"
true stereo headphones for our single-sided deaf community.
Thank you for allowing
me to be of service to the unilateral hearing loss (UHL) / single-sided
deaf (SSD) community! |
