Ovation's new 1627VL features a shallow "Vintage Lyra chord" body made from the same interwoven glass and hybrid resin materials used on early Ovations from the 60's and 70's.  The shallow body is designed to provide plenty of cut to overcome other instruments in the mix.  You get a little less bass, a strong mid-range, and bright high-end which helps every note stand out in an arrangement.
