The Auction:
This is a COMPLETE
basic set
of 25 sheet stamps FVF
and MNH. It contains Liberty
Series stamps with former
Scott numbers 1030
to 1052. This is a short set
without the $5 included. The definitive
regular issue singles are either perf.
11 x 10½ or 10½ x 11.
*In
2015 Scott changed many Liberty catalogue
numbers after a half century. The
rationale is that the first variety
printed should retain the major number 1030. In this case wet stamps were
printed before dry so many of the catalogue
numbers needed to be flipped. The minor
number 1030a now refers to the
common dry print
variety.
It will
take years for the number changes to
catch on within the philatelic community.
Many dealers will continue to use the
old numbers while some will switch to
the new numbers causing confusion. Rest
assured that our identification is
current and accurate.

The
correct catalogue numbers of the common
varieties are now: 1030a,
1031b, 1031A, 1032, 1033, 1034, 1035c,
1036a, 1037, 1038, 1039a, 1040, 1041,
1042, 1043, 1044, 1044A, 1045, 1046,
1047, 1048, 1049a, 1050a, 1051a and
1052a!
The Liberty
Series sheet set ran
from years 1954 to 1968
which was a relatively long period of time. The stamps were reprinted many times with
different paper, perforations, gum and
tagging.
For this basic set, the gum and paper type will be of
our choosing. We recommend that you check the TBR
store for specialized variety sets.
In 2013
Scott reassigned the 8c
Pershing stamp (old 1042A)
to the 1962 Regulars.
The new number is 1214 and
it is now sold as part of that set.
Some of these beautiful
stamps have very fine centering. There is a 30%
premium for VF but
we offer better quality at our regular
low price!
