Pane 2 carries four of the six Battle of Waterloo stamps, set within part of a painting of the courageous 1st Foot Guards and Coldstream Guards defending the fortified farm at Hougoumont against a French attack.
Pane 3, with the remaining two first-class values from the Battle of Waterloo set, features a finely detailed map engraving showing the strategic positioning of the Allied, Prussian and French forces.
Pane 4 has eight mixed-value Machins with a central label showing the lion from the Lion’s Mound memorial at the site of Waterloo. The illustration portrays a Highlander, an artilleryman and two cavalrymen inspecting a pile of trophies taken from the French. Pane includes 2 x £1.00, 2 x 50p, 2 x 10p and 2 x 5p. Also included is
the booklet the panes have been taken from.
